[Edit]It doesn't get much weirder than seeing indie rock darlings Mogwai and Magoo do a split EP of classic Black Sabbath songs, but it really does exist. It seems as though both bands just wanted to rock out, and that's exactly what they do with these metal anthems. Magoo is up to bat first and takes on "Black Sabbath," one of the best numbers in Sabbath's catalogue. Magoo actually covers the song faithfully, but the outer space vocals and lo-fi production make it a very interesting take. Mogwai also plays it pretty straight, although their cover of the marijuana anthem "Sweet Leaf" seems even murkier and drug induced than the original. There is nothing here that stands out as fantastic, but you can tell that this is an honest tribute to a great metal band by two bands whose fan base probably avoids Black Sabbath at all costs. Fans of Sabbath would probably enjoy this album more than fans of the two bands, and maybe that is how they wanted it. No matter what the intention is, this is definitely one of the more interesting ideas for an EP, and should at least be heard.
