Lazers Never Die

The first sign that this Jamaican zombie killer alter ego wasn't just a one-off, the Lazers Never Die EP finds DJ/producers Diplo and Switch reviving their dancehall-meets-electro Major Lazer character with two new tracks and three remixes. First of the new is the massive “Song of Siren,” a ground-shaking team-up between Tamil tiger M.I.A. and gruff dancehall don Busy Signal, who dominates the track with lyrics that exorcize crooked cops from the ghetto. Next up is Bermudian smoothie Collie Buddz crooning the Major's most chilled smoking song to date, then it's on to the remixes as the Portuguese group Buraka Som Sistema put some digital kick into the daggering sex anthem “Bruk Out.” K.L.A.M. hack and slice “Can't Stop Now” while creating a new genre — gabba dancehall — and then Thom Yorke introduces “Jump Up” to Kid A's space organ along with some deep, chilly bass for a track that's Rasta gone polar (or Rasta gone Basic Channel for you older folks). In the end, a necessary acquisition for fans or an easy way for newcomers to judge whether they are wacky enough to join the Major's cyberpunky reggae party.
