Evil — pure metallic evil. On this seven-track debut, Majority Rule fuses speedy metal riffing with hardcore screams and spooky breakdowns to produce a nightmare of a record — a good thing, depending on how you look at it. Recorded by one of the gurus of the genre, Brian McTernan, at his Salad Days studio, Interviews With David Frost is a spectacle of perfect-sounding distorted guitars that chug along toward a sinister future. The guttural howls shift occasionally into At the Drive-In-type screams, but it's never long before the band gives up on chilling out, and then the real intensity begins. This disc is a bit more complicated than the average hardcore disc, and the musicianship is obviously impeccable from start to finish. Still, anyone who isn't a fan of the style won't likely be won over, but for those who dig chaotic sounds of the future, this is all you'd ever need. Majority Rule is almost terrifyingly tough in both sound and approach and there is little in the way of filler at any point on the record. Most of the tracks are rather lengthy, but the band fills each one with countless movements and rhythmic shifts, making for a disorienting but highly charged listening experience. Like the Cave-In of old or Converge on speed, this is for serious listeners only who can handle the record's abrasive nature and recognize the talent under the terror. ~ Peter J. D'Angelo, Rovi
