Make Some Quiet - 15 Years of Badman

Dylan Magierek began his record label—Badman Recording Co.—in his flat in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district, going so far as to record many of the artists in the house built in 1904. This 15-year celebration is a digital-only two-and-a-half-hour collection that features highlights from the many, glorious records that wear the Badman Recording Co. imprint. Red House Painters, Mark Kozelek, My Morning Jacket, and Lisa Germano made some intriguing records for the label, while lesser-known but no less talented names like Hayden, The Innocence Mission, James William Hindle, and Lanterna further built the label’s reputation as a place for idiosyncratic wanderers to find comfort and a sense of belonging. The title Make Some Quiet references the subdued sounds that became the label’s initial inspiration, and tracks such as Kozelek’s “Ruth Marie,” Low’s cover of John Denver’s “Back Home Again,” or The Innocence Mission’s “Lake Shore Drive” underscore that gentle beauty. Lovers turn things to an electronic edge. Patrick Park’s “The Lucky Ones” moves toward folk-pop.
