[Edit]Traditional Cajun music has its charms and detriments, and each looms throughout this 16-cut session. The pluses include often delightful vocals and excellent group interaction by The Mamou Prarie Band. The negatives are the lack of a standout vocalist or instrumentalist, and the inherent sameness of a program featuring mainly waltzes and two-steps with French lyrics. Both Cajun and zydeco recordings can't help but become proportionately more predictable depending on how rigidly performers adhere to its traditional formulas; The Mamou Prairie Band is heaven for Cajun purists, but can be tough sledding for everyone else.
