Hard to believe it was way back in 1994 when a young Mariah released her first holiday album Merry Christmas, which featured the mega-hit single "All I Want For Christmas Is You." Years later, she is one of the biggest R&B divas on the planet, with walls full of platinum plaques and occasional acting roles. On Merry Christmas II You, she sounds mellower and more relaxed than usual (in a good way), toning down the crazy multi-octive action and jettisoning the usual big-name guest appearances that sometimes weigh down her albums, (the only feature here comes from her mother on "O Come All Ye Faithful/Hallelujah Chorus"). A nice mix of both high energy party tunes ("Oh Santa!"), gentle renditions of traditional favorites ("The First Noel/Born Is The King"), and pleasant surprises ("Charlie Brown Christmas"), this is a welcome addition to any yuletide soundtrack.
