Details
[Edit]Marilyn Harris is a fine pianist, an appealing singer, and a particularly skillful lyricist and composer. Future Street is her most jazz-oriented project and it features several high points. "My Dissipation" sounds at a distance like a nice Jobim tune complete with bossa nova rhythms and flute, until one listens to the hilarious words. More serious is the touching "In a Lonely Place" (one of five songs that she co-wrote with Mark Winkler), a wistful piece deserving of catching on. Other notable numbers include "Dorothy Parker" (based on a poem by the title character), the catchy "Future Street," "Sunglasses in the Rain," and "Love Means Never Having to Say Goodbye." This CD serves as proof that Marilyn Harris deserves to be much better known, for she is capable of writing many future standards.
