You immediately notice the reversal of billing, since the duo began as Billy Davis and Marilyn McCoo; granted, the female name should have been first all along, but McCoo's solo success doubtlessly prompted the change. This disjointed album mixes MOR with Southern whoop-'em-ups. Their revival of Sam & Dave's "I Thank You," and "Carry On," a deep soul drama, don't cotton with poppy ballads like "I Thought It Took a Little Time" and the original rendition of "Saving All My Love for You," which Whitney Houston elevated to new heights years later. The bouncy "I Got the Music, You Got the Words" owes its foundation and being to LTD's "Back in Love Again."
