[Edit]Released in 1983, while Marilyn McCoo was hosting the popular music program of the same name, Solid Gold was more a tie-in — one that failed to chart — than a proper solo album. It begins with a performance of the show's theme song, and it's heavy on straightforward covers of then-recent pop hits, including the Police's "Every Breath You Take," Daryl Hall & John Oates' "One on One," and Culture Club's "I'll Tumble 4 Ya." The finale is a spirited medley of David Bowie's "Let's Dance" and Men Without Hats' "The Safety Dance" that contains a fairly amusing segue and change in mood. There's some original material, most notably "I Believe in You and Me," a duet with longtime partner Billy Davis, Jr. Written by Sandy Linzer and album producer David Wolfert, the song was also a minor hit for the Four Tops the same year, and was much more successful through its 1996 Whitney Houston version. In 2014, the Real Gone label issued the album on CD for the first time and added the previously unreleased "Relationship," written by the Kinks' Dave Davies.
