While embarking in 2000's Abrigo tour, Marina Lima had a vocal problem. Canceling the tour, she treated her voice while rehearsing in the studio. The result is this album, suggestively titled "Registers in an Undertone." This album sold 70,000 copies in one month. Lima's trademark is a general indefinition of style, which, nevertheless, is based in a trendy sonority and original choices. The result is a collection of hits that are quite representative a period of life (hers and her fans'), but which became dated after a decade. There's a remix version of the hit "Fullgás," a ballad rendition for the social-concerned "A Tempestade," country influences in the beat but urban lyrics in "O Solo da Paixão," and the big surprise, a samba by master Paulinho da Viola. She doesn't sing it as samba, but as funk. Another implausible tune was "Mesmo Que Seja Eu" in the first rendition, in 1984. Written by the romantic duo Erasmo Carlos/Roberto Carlos, the tune is surrounded by a corny aura. Lima helped introduce the duo's talents to a younger audience. The song, recovered through her interpretation, offer new perspectives, especially the jazz piano solo. "Stay," one of the most heartful ballads she's interpreted, also scored a hit.
