[Edit]Mark Isham's film scores are typically long on mood and texture and short on energy and accessibility, but Little Man Tate flips the script, embracing lively, jazz-inspired melodies and playful rhythms. The childlike enthusiasm of the score is perfectly attuned to the movie's title character, a seven-year-old child prodigy. The music pulses with life, but never falls prey to precociousness or sentimentality. Even the slower, more contemplative cues delight.
