Despite a heavy saturation of inspirational piano titles among LDS artists, Marshall McDonald establishes a memorable place among Marvin Goldstein, Michael R. Hicks, and Paul Cardall with this debut album. Tour de force seems too loud a term to describe "Sunday Morning Light," yet several tunes hit with adequate impact to justify it. "The Race" is written for the inspiration of his aunt's marathons, while "Til We Meet" reflects on his experience departing from dear friends. The album's strength is its ability to combine melodies with memories; it is difficult not to reminisce of friends and warm moments. The first track, "Morning Light," sets the dual theme of sanctity and friendship and resounds as the album's best offering. The tender melodies sound very Jim Brickman-esque in style. Look for some unique arrangements of popular hymns, plus original songs with a Sabbath feel. Together, the album is very appropriate for a Sunday music mix.
