[Edit]In 1997, Philippine male artist Martin Nievera released Journeys. The album is dominated by smooth ballads and contains 12 songs, half of which are by Western composers, including "Traces," a hit for the Classics IV in the '60s. Martin Nievera is one of the Philippines' most popular and best-selling artists, and sings in a silky smooth voice throughout the album. Five of the six Philippine-composed songs were co-written by Martin Nievera and respected music figure Louie Ocampo, while the upbeat "Sweet Smile," an outstanding song which contains exciting horn fills, was written solely by Martin Nievera. One of the album's best songs is the adventurous "What's on the Other Side," composed by Martin Nievera and Louie Ocampo. The song initially rides atop an enticing syncopated backbeat and contains excellent backing vocals and a searing guitar line, as well as a strong melody and passionate singing by Martin Nievera. Journeys is a fine assemblage of songs and isn't weighed down by the abundance of ballads.
