Details

[Edit]

After his early success, Master P launched his own label, No Limit Records, enlisted in-house producers Beats by the Pound, and started signing artists and cranking out records at an alarming rate. He scored his first hits with tracks like "Ice Cream Man" and "Make 'Em Say Uhh!" and launched the careers of Mystikal, Mia X, Kane & Abel, Souljah Slim, his brothers Sillk Tha Shocker and C-Murder, his son Lil Romeo, and many others. P continued releasing albums post-2000, but never really had another hit. He's been focused more on setting up Romeo's career and reorganizing his business. The Gift is his 14th solo effort (though there's only one actual track with no guests) and his first after an eight-year layoff. Like most of his music, it primarily centers around money, drugs, girls, and the streets, with midtempo beats and walls of keyboards. P's got plenty of help here, from Rick Ross, The Game, Nipsey Hussle, Howie T, Yo Gotti, Cymphonique, Jeremiah, Romeo, T-Bo, et al. "Ghost" and "You a Genius" (featuring Alley Boy) are highlights.
