Details
[Edit]Not content with only being a brilliant comedic actor known for his work on U.K. television series such as The IT Crowd, Matt Berry branched out into music with two wonderfully odd albums of psychedelic folk-funk for Acid Jazz. Just as fans were getting a handle on his sound, Berry switches things up drastically on his 2014 effort, Music for Insomniacs. Suffering one night from the affliction that gives the record its title, he fired up some of his vintage synthesizers and began work on two long pieces that are designed to soothe the unquiet nocturnal minds of listeners. Berry gently sets free waves of synthetic sound that undulate and flow like very sleepy rivers, and if his work resonates with listeners, they won't even remember it in the morning. An interesting diversion from a very interesting guy, Music for Insomniacs may not be for everyone, but fellow melatonin poppers, restless pillow flippers, and frustrated blanket wrestlers will want to check it out for sure.
