Details
[Edit]Maurice Chevalier's success in Gigi, coupled with his 1959 Special Academy Award, transformed him from a figure of pre-war nostalgia into a major recording artist. MGM Records leaped at the opportunity with this album, on which the singer not only offers "C'est Magnifique," "It's All Right with Me," and "I Love Paris" from Can Can, but also "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" and "Get Me to the Church on Time" from My Fair Lady (which has a special resonance and irony, being a close musical relative of Gigi), and "Just in Time" from Bells Are Ringing, amongst other hit songs from recent (and not so recent) shows. Chevalier was in excellent form on this recording, which deserves to be reissued.
