Unlike the famous Sinatra album, Mel Tormé is not singing for young lovers here. Sings for Lovers is a compilation of his mid-'80s work for Concord (plus two tracks from 1996), encompassing his latter-day rebirth as a popular figure after a long period in the wilderness. His best material with Concord, however, is no pale imitation of his '50s glory days. Dates with Rob McConnell, George Shearing, and Marty Paich worked wonderfully well.
