[Edit]This live date, recorded at the 1994 Montreal Jazz Festival, is an excellent showcase for pianist Michele Rosewoman. Joined by a pair of highly intuitive sidemen (bassist Kenny Davis and drummer Gene Jackson), Rosewoman performs Herbie Hancock's "Dolphin Dance"; "When Sunny Gets Blue"; an Earth, Wind & Fire song that contains one of her two vocals; the folkloric "For Agayu"; and five originals, including "In a Mood" and "For Monk." From the start of her career, the avant-garde pianist has had an original style and conception, and this is one of her best all-around recordings.
