As an important figure in the development of Detroit house, one must never underestimate the power of Mike Grant. On "And Then It Was My Turn," Grant lets you know what he is all about. A powerful and bass-driven track, "The Struggle of My People" is the gem on this record. With back-lit synths, and a heavy bassline, combined with the use of "And Still I Rise," a powerful poem by legendary author and poet Maya Angelou, this track speaks for itself. Powerful music with a powerful message. "A Beautiful Thing" is the next track, a dreamy wave of synths and high hats providing an excellent counter to the ferocity of the opening track. The B-side of this 12" is a real treat. A housed-up remix of "The Struggle of My People" by Moods & Grooves artist Mr. G, of G Flame and Mr. G. Made for the dancefloor, it takes the powerful words of the original and makes them a little more melodic to fit the beat. Still as meaningful, but just a little more playful, an excellent remix to close out an excellent 12".
