An up-and-coming rapper originally from Rhode Island, Mike Stud was a standout college baseball pitcher who started dabbling in music as a joke. He debuted in 2010 with the single (and YouTube video) "College Humor." With a girls-'n'-beer frat-rap style reminiscent of Sam Adams, Asher Roth, Mac Miller, et al., the video eventually racked up more a million views and inspired Mike Stud to get (relatively) serious about rhyming. Three mixtapes followed (A Toast to Tommy, Click w/ Huey Mack, and #SundayStudDay), paving the way to his first full album, Relief. Sports references, casual sex conquests, and rampant partying abound; it's all set to relentlessly catchy production from big-name pop players like Brian Lee and Luke Walker (who worked with Carly Rae Jepsen and Sugar Ray, respectively). Whether Mike Stud has what it takes to break into the big leagues remains to be seen, but at the very least he should get a few starts. Check out "Batter Up," "Kids," and "Perfect for Me."
