[Edit]This is a difficult LP to rate. Compared to the trombonist's best work, it is a weak effort, but considering that Dicky Wells (who had been in poor health) hadn't recorded for years and his extroverted personality still shines through (and he continues taking wild chances), this is certainly a colorful album. Joined by pianist Dick Katz, either George Duvivier or Michael Moore on bass, drummer Oliver Jackson and on five of the nine songs, Buddy Tate on tenor and clarinet, Wells (on his final recording) mostly explores standards and blues with spirit, determination and swing.
