[Edit]Mongol800's breakout album Message started as an independent release that went on to surprise listeners (and charts). The band powers through a salvo of what's essentially melodic punk music on Message, sounding at times a bit like Lit, at times a bit like Green Day, and always entirely themselves. There's an interesting mix of angst and joy in their sound, and the whole is anchored by a complex set of musical intricacies: partial vocal harmonies, odd time signatures, and beyond.
