Montauk P.'s 1998 CD Def=Lim is a example of propulsive, driving techno-house. The ten tracks are all very rhythm-heavy, and Montauk P.'s take on dynamics is not dropping beats down to a blissed-out level or slowing down the trip in any way, but in driving the beats faster, pushing and then elevating them beyond the breaking point. Montauk P. seems to ask, "Can you keep up?" Standout tracks include "Lizardman," "Pham," "Elektroid," and the title track. The instrumental album is light on samples and not overly pop-friendly, which should please die-hard followers of the genre. Fans of Run Lola Run who want to push themselves further into hard-edged Goa trance may want to schedule some time with Montauk P.'s Def=Lim.
