The fourth studio long-player from Mr. Oizo (a.k.a. Quentin Dupieux) finds the Parisian “Flat Beat” creator and film director boiling down his electronica to deliver something more accessible to the dance floor masses. After the computer-voiced intro of “Introeil,” the slightly erratic “Camelf*ck” oozes in with playfully chirping and beeping effects that sound equal parts vintage videogame and Star Wars laser blasts. It's nicely contrasted with gradually swelling beats and tones that build a brooding undercurrent of anxiety and tension, akin to a Justice production. He simultaneously caters to and makes fun of dance floor undesirables with “Douche Beat,” where Euroclub beats are filtered through Oizo’s seemingly bottomless quiver of cartoonish sounds. “Datsun” gets weird with squeaky honks and allocated bursts of buzzing sounds propelled by slowly ramped-up breakbeats. After goofing on a saxophone solo teaser in the song's beginning, the humorous “Oral Sax” infuses crumbling static over stuttering rhythms as analog squeals and yelps drive the melody. The title track harks back to old-school techno, replete with police-whistle blasts.
