Issued in the spring of 1976, It's Good to Be Alive was D.J. Rogers' RCA debut after having recorded for Leon Russell's Shelter label. It was a unique mix of soul and gospel that featured the original version of his classic ballad single, "Say You Love Me." Another standout track is the poignant "Bula Jean." Those two, along with the upbeat "Hold on, Be Strong," received radio play. The sparse framework, a rhythm section with a smattering of horns, probably gives Rogers the best showcase for his songs. Some of the album's track can be found on Golden Classics.
