[Edit]Those who say that independent music can only be underground music have not done their research. Little Rock, AR, Mulehead is a perfect example of independent thinking and actions resulting in toe-tapping anthems for the common man. While the band's first release, Never Again, was more of a solo effort for lead singer Kevin Kerby with friends and former bandmates pitching in to fill the gaps, The Gospel Accordion, Vol. 2 is a true band effort. This record is a mass of cross-references and caveats expressed through parentheses. Tracks like "Cheap Red Wine," "One of These Days," and "Pilate" bring to mind what is easily categorized as alternative country or Americana. "Out Here in the Pines" reminds one of what grunge could have become. "Dig My Grave" and "Get Thee Behind Me Satan" are up-tempo gospel numbers that any denomination could appreciate, and "Ozark" is a minimalistic bluegrass tune. Overall on the The Gospel Accordion, Vol. 2, joy, sorrow, and just plain contentment come together to create the perfect soundtrack for Southern life.
