This instantly likeable compilation features modern-rock acts playing old-school Muppet songs. OK Go’s take on “The Muppet Show Theme Song” opens with an electro-indie reworking that’s so hip it begs for Kermit the Frog to be fitted with a pair of skinny jeans. Weezer sticks closer to the original blueprint with an endearing cover of “The Rainbow Connection” featuring guest vocals by Paramore’s Hayley Williams. And although it would have made perfect sense for Menomena to cover “Mahna Mahna,” the Fray pull it off replete with Isaac Slade singing a spot-on impersonation of beatnik Muppet, Bip Bippadotta. My Morning Jacket delivers the standout track with a beautifully rootsy rendition of “Our World” from Jim Henson’s 1977 adaptation of the Russell Hoban storybook Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas. Other gems include Andrew Bird’s sleepy version of “Bein’ Green” and Rachael Yamagata turning Gonzo’s “I’m Going to Go Back There Someday” into an avant-orchestral lullaby.
