[Edit]Originally released on LP in Europe under the title Pata Pata, Enregistrement Public Au Theatre Des Champs Elysees captures the gifted South African singer songwriter delivering a particularly impassioned performance before an adoring Parisian audience. Though many of Makeba’s most notable commercial successes were behind her at this point, she continued to develop and grow as an artist throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, and this album contains both traditional South and West African numbers as well as a number of tunes that were entirely new to Makeba’s repertoire in this period. Makeba is ably accompanied by a mix of top South African and American jazz musicians and converses charmingly and fluently with her French audience throughout this remarkable performance.
