[Edit]This album is a selective realization of a book of 17th century lute music guitarist Nigel North discovered in the 1960s. Attributed to numerous composers of the time, the book was something of a "greatest hits" for lute. On the disc, North's playing is stellar throughout, and the pieces give a wonderful flavor of the time: gentle dance melodies and stately airs. The recording is also excellent, capturing the rich palette of this unique instrument.
