Details
[Edit]"The young musicians featured in 2010's No One Knows About Persian Cats live in Tehran and can't play, own or even listen to any Western music without risk of receiving 80 lashes and a monetary fine equivalent to $2,000. And even if they play traditional Persian music, they face imprisonment should their jamming inspire men and women to dance together. This semi-documentary dramatically follows a handful of young Iranian indie rockers fighting for the freedom to play their music. Take It Easy Hospital's ""Human Jungle"" starts off the soundtrack with a keyboard-heavy groove, dance-pop rhythms and singers Negar and Ashkan providing some endearing girl/guy vocal harmonies. Their ""Me and You"" is a more interesting tune as the two mix Middle Eastern modal notes with a ‘60s garage-rock organ while singing harmonies in Farsi. Negar's wistful ballad ""My Sleepy Fall"" is an especially beautiful moment. The Free Keys turn up their guitar amps and crank out some grungy rawk on the broody ""Dreaming"" while Yellow Dogs' ""New Century"" meshes surf-toned guitars with post-punk beats, a walking bass and distorted vocals.
