[Edit]The second EP from Marxist mods the International Noise Conspiracy is also their first release on the Sub Pop label, as well as a further affirmation of their upbeat rock powers. Opening with "The Reproduction of Death," a fuzzed-out and catchy slab of energetic rage from 2000's Survival Sickness LP, the Swedish rockers give a nice display of their talents with dynamics and hooks. Next up is the keyboard-driven "The Transmission," which throws in a repetitive riff over shuffling drums before busting into one of the group's typical punk reviva- styled bouncing choruses. Closing things out is "Simalcura Overload," a track that despite its title is actually one of the group's most laid-back tracks. The variety of this EP only proves the International Noise Conspiracy's abilities to be one of the more consistent punk groups of their time, and it is also a nice warning, letting people know that they shouldn't be too quick to form opinions on a band with the ability to move in so many divergent directions. ~ Peter J.
