A "restoring force," in the parlance of physicists, returns equilibrium to an otherwise imbalanced system. The phrase makes an apt title for metalcore mavens Of Mice and Men's third album. Having endured numerous lineup changes—including most recently the departure of bassist and clean vocalist Shayley Bourget (here replaced by Aaron Pauley)—the band sounds reinvigorated on this pummeling set. While the nasty sawtooth guitars sound like they could be responsible for the titular "Bones Exposed," Pauley's sonorous chorus on the track shows off the group's new secret weapon. They've also discovered a knack for melody, with songs like "Another You" and "Feels Like Forever" balancing circle-pit chaos with harmonized heaviness. Restoring Force is a welcome step forward for Of Mice and Men.
