Details
[Edit]The descending vocal melody and gang-guitar backdrop on “Feels Like Forever” evoke a trip to hell until the chorus, which is hugely optimistic. Similar uncanny moments fill the album (dig the psych guitar on “Bones Exposed”!). “The Space Enough to Grow” lifts on tender melodies and a lyrical vulnerability that’s unusual for metalcore. But overall, singer Austin Carlile (ex–Attack Attack!) and the boys are on a thrashy mission to modernize the forbidding resolve of old-school nu-metal. This deluxe version of the 2014 release features new songs, including the great “Broken Generation,” the rising band’s finest anthem yet.
