Details
[Edit]A 1999 documentary that follows the budding careers of three young New York boxers, On the Ropes was nominated for an Oscar and took home many other awards (from Sundance, the SF International Film Festival, and the Directors Guild of America). Its soundtrack was produced by Theodore Shapiro and Ray "Web" Davis (who's also known as X-Ray Da Mindbenda and has cranked out higher-level hip-hop since the '80s, working with Suga Bear, Monsta Island Czars, and underground supervillain MF DOOM, among others). This soundtrack features about a dozen great rap songs interspersed with mellow instrumental interludes and dialogue snippets from the film. The songs featuring the likes of DOOM, Darcmind, Vultcha, Scott Free, and other M.I.C. notables like Megalon, KD (a.k.a. Kwite Def, a.k.a. Kamackeris), and Rodan. Hard-hitting yet soulful production dominates, with no shortage of neck-bending loops supporting roughneck rhymes galore. Don't miss "No B*llshit," "Me Verse Me," "Keep It Street," "Anti-Gravity," and "Street Thugs."
