Thankfully, this Oreade Music release leaves any chintzy new age accompaniment in the station. However, it doesn't focus its microphones enough on its principal subject. The sounds of trains — chugging along, whistles blowing, crossing bridges — are here, but there's also plenty of birds chirping, which is sort of strange. "Station Ambience With Announcements" works well, as does "Trains Pour into the City Station." But too many of the tracks don't pay enough attention to the trains. They forget that part of what makes the machines so exciting is how loud they are.
