[Edit]Love That's Last: A Wholly Hypnographic and Disturbing Work Regarding Oxbow is an 11-track compilation of songs recorded throughout the band's long and challenging career, about evenly spilt between familiar songs, alternate versions (such as the squalling six-minute opening take on "Glimmer Bird," their rewrite of the blues standard "St. James Infirmary") and new material. The group's familiar blend of noise-improv freak-outs and grinding, mutated blues (imagine early Sonic Youth collaborating with the Birthday Party and you're most of the way there) is on full display throughout, and to such an extent that it's possible, this is an accessible introduction to Oxbow's music that focuses on relatively straightforward and concise songs like the dark, moaning blues "The Valley." The CD is packaged with an excellent DVD featuring a lengthy band history called Music for Adults: A Film About a Band Called Oxbow and a set of live videos, providing a much more in-depth overview of Oxbow's long and varied career.
