It’s easy to forget what a great rocker Ozzy Osbourne has been, considering the reality show and the intermittent releases. But when he shows up, Ozzy still sings in that classic foghorn growl that sounds like’s battling personal demons just to make it to the microphone. That strange sense of desperation has always separated him from the average singer and made him a legend with Black Sabbath and his own solo career. His latest guitar hero is Gus G., who can turn it out with the exceptional talents fans have come to expect. Producer Kevin Churko co-writes the songs here and he helps Ozzy focus on hooks and plenty of sonic drama. “Let It Die,” “Let Me Hear You Scream” and “Soul Sucker” are tunes electronically modified for the RockBand and computer age. There’s a huge, supernatural sound at work. Even an alleged ballad such as “Life Won’t Wait” has a widescreen heaviness included. “Crucify,” “Fearless” and “Latimer’s Mercy” provide more Ozzy metal for the masses.
