Gadd's songs are strong and she sings them as if they matter, which in fact they do. Sure of herself, Gadd sings of the pleasures and pitfalls of love without dropping into the "poor me" trap so many of her contemporaries can't seem to avoid. The mood here is melancholy, not whining. Guests Marty Stuart, Glen Duncan, and Rob Ickes add some sensitive accompaniment, but never overwhelm the songs. The focus here is on Gadd, on her songs, and her endearing voice. The flavor of the album reminds one of some of the Judd's earlier records, or perhaps something Dolly Parton might have done. While this album might not be a classic, it's another worthy effort from an artist who deserves more attention, especially from those in search of heartfelt country musings.
