Details
[Edit]Australian producers Mathew Gill and John Courtidis (a.k.a. Matt K Von and Jonny Castro) have proven that partying can sometimes result in creative visions brought to fruition. The duo met at a mutual friend’s soiree and immediately bonded on musical taste. Half an hour later, they left the party to start work on what became their 2012 debut EP under the Parachute Youth moniker, Can’t Get Better Than This. It starts with the radio edit of the title track, a haunting helping of spooky house enveloped in big, warm synthesizer tones, androgynous vocals, a huge four-on-the-floor beat, and a breakdown with a sweet payoff. It’s so immediately catchy and moving that they bookend the set with a slightly extended version that’s a minute and 28 seconds longer. With icy synth tones, a pulsing beat, and a throaty-voiced singing part that recalls a young Dave Gahan, the following “Awake Now” reveals a deep love for early Depeche Mode recordings. The Sydney-based producer/DJ Sam La More remixes “Can’t Get Better Than This,” kicking out nearly six and a half minutes of club-thumping bliss.
