The Colorado-born, L.A.-based singer/songwriter Patrick Park remains a critical favorite. His 2013 EP We Fall Out of Touch is a stripped-down effort that highlights his strengths. Produced by Park and his longtime engineer Dave Trumfio (Wilco, My Morning Jacket), the EP started with Park isolating himself for 10 days in the middle of the California desert in a cabin with no distractions. This deliberate time away from phones, TV, and the Internet added to a sense of forlorn distance and underlined the truth for Park that even with technology all around us, many people feel out of touch with their surroundings. Then with three days at Kingsize Soundlabs in L.A., with Luke Adams on drums, Park caught the bittersweet beauty he heard in his head. Instrumentation is muted to an anonymous drone for the masterful “In Our Sunday Clothes.” The title track evokes the atmosphere around the entire project. “All or Nothing” brings out a sweet falsetto worthy of Jeff Buckley.
