Details
[Edit]Singer/songwriter Paul Bertolino fills his debut album Inner Soundtrack with retro '60s AM pop that harks back to such icons of the genre as Burt Bacharach and Van Dyke Parks while also hitting on such contemporary touchstones as Elliott Smith and the Flaming Lips. He even brings to mind early Prince with his high, soulful croon and semi-funky folk-pop compositions. If he can be a bit obtuse lyrically he makes up for it in the production. Here Bertolino hits the mark, creating pulsating soundscapes out of various acoustic and electric guitars, vintage keyboards, backing-horn parts, and sundry other instruments. Fans of vintage sunshine pop should find much to enjoy on this ambitious first effort.
