Details
[Edit]Altoist Paul Winter's third of six Columbia albums (his main jazz dates as a leader) finds him continuing to look toward Brazil for inspiration while hanging on to his roots in West Coast jazz for the time being. This set features Winter (who doubles on soprano) teaming up with trumpeter Dick Whitsell, baritonist Jay Cameron and a rhythm section of up-and-coming players: pianist Warren Bernhardt, bassist Chuck Israels and drummer Ben Riley. Together they perform compositions by Tom McIntosh (including "Cupbearers"), Bernhardt, Carlos Lyma, Gil Melle and Jimmy Heath (a fast blues called "All Members"). The music still sounds fresh decades later.
