The word that comes leaping to mind after listening to this is earnest. These are hardworking gentlemen and it shows in there songs. Each shares an attention to detail and instrumentation that frankly is welcome in this age of gloss and over-hype. Too bad for the Pawtuckets that their vision is not an immediately gratifying one. Perhaps there are simply too many groups peddling this sort of power-tonk angst. Perhaps they do too many things passably well to figure out just what it is they do really well. Lyrically, they're complex, and they play their songs like nothing else matters. The tone of the record and obvious effort expended leads one to hope and expect that these guys are in it for the long haul and that soon, I'd say very soon, they'll discover the talents within themselves to match their admirable work ethics. Until that moment, this is a record for fans of the alt-country genre. Stay tuned. The next thing they do might just create a genre of their own.
