[Edit]The debut recording of Goober & the Peas is in many ways a recreation of the experience of seeing the group live. The songs sound the same as they do live — with all the energy and without any additional instrumentation, and not to mention the continual banter between Goober and Junior. This is cowboy surf music at its finest — with a dark side. Songs generally riff on traditional country music themes and take on a sinister edge. "Up the Stairs" sings the song of a stalker and "Don't Be Afraid" tells the story of alcohol-induced domestic violence. There are lots of guitar hooks — "The Ballad of Ms. Amichi" and "It'll Getcha" are simply infectious. "Hunt for Grandpa (Let's Go)" has a driving, Led Zeppelin-esque feel. ~ Mark W. B. Allender, Rovi
