Peggy Scott is most well-known for her late-'60s duet recordings with Jo Jo Benson, as well as her late-'90s hit "Bill" (under the name Peggy Scott-Adams). She did do some recordings in the interim, however, including some 1978 sessions in Jackson, Mississippi. This 2006 CD compilation includes both sides of the two singles that were issued from these sessions ("You've Got It All"/"Let Me Untie You," which came out in the U.K., and "Start My Motor"/"Your Loving Is Tasty," which came out in Germany), as well as a half-dozen previously unreleased cuts and remix versions of "Let Me Untie You" and "You've Got It All." While it's a bit more old-school soul in nature than much of the black popular music that was being made in the late '70s, it's not retro. In fact it sounds, like much soul being recorded in that era, like late-'60s/early-'70s soul updated with trendy (and now dated) disco and funk production touches. While Scott's voice is full and powerful on these sides, the songs are nothing special. They're upbeat, fairly faceless, caught-between-eras soul, and Scott's vocals aren't distinctive enough to make something more out of ordinary material. She's Got It All: Rare 70s Soul does have well-done liner notes with both specific details about the sessions, and a more general overview of the singer's career.
