People Like Us' 1999 album Hate People like Us features remixes of Hate People like You by simpatico artists like Negativland, Coil, Death In June, Barbed, and Stock, Hausen & Walkman, as well new works from People like Us called "plulinks" that segue between each remix. Stylistically, the tracks range from Negativland's epic, ornate "What's Music?" to the abstract noise of Farmers Manual's "Allinone.remix" to the delicate ambience of Rehberg & Bauer's "Nicolo" and Sons of Silence's "Cockahoop." Boyd Rice's surreal remix of "Period Piece" captures the mystery and humor of a little girl discovering menstruation, and sex, bodily functions, and clothing are dissected in the "plulinks," which also display People Like Us' cut-n-paste sense of humor by stringing together non sequiturs like "Following nature's laws helps prevent flatulence. You should start following nature's laws now" and "I have a magnificent stamp collection." Overall, Hate People like Us sounds like switching quickly between two radio stations, one playing easy listening and one playing electronica: entertaining and pleasantly confusing.
