It's a factory job that pulls together some solid tracks for a decent price and is meant for those who want something by an artist that reasonably presents her or him in light of the accomplishments that made her or him a legend in the first place. To that end, this collection scores in spades. While Percy Sledge's biggest hit, "When a Man Loves a Woman," kicks it off, there is no downhill slide for the remaining 19 cuts. His versions of soul classics like "Dark End of the Street," "Try a Little Tenderness," "Tell It Like It Is," "You Send Me," "It Tears Me Up," "I've Been Loving You Too Long," "Baby Help Me," and "My Special Prayer" can be argued about forever in terms of whether they are definitive or not, but there is no debate concerning the authoritative nature of their presentation. Sledge's voice sends chills down the spine of the listener over and again no matter what he sings, and this collection is one solid offering from top to bottom.
