Anything goes on the French pop chemist’s infectious debut. A philosophy student interested in how we derive “pleasure out of pain”, Meller juxtaposes her bruised soul with airy vocals and irresistibly upbeat music. In search of euphoria, she tinkers with Afro-pop and psychedelic electronica (“Hawaii)”, Euro house (“Baby Love”), and an improbably good synthesis of smooth jazz and playground rhythms (“Backpack”). However eclectic the sonic experiments get, everything’s united by her skill for glorious hooks.
