[Edit]This Rhino five-song sampler is an unusual summary of the NYC protest folk singer. Many releases in the Rhino Hi-Five series aim to hand-pick the five best-known songs from an artist. This was obviously constrained by label contracts that split Ochs' career into two distinct eras (Elektra for the early folk-singer tunes, A&M for his later artier songs), but still, more obvious choices could have been made. As this stands, it's a quick look at Ochs' Elektra period, with two songs from his 1964 debut, All the News That's Fit to Sing, two from I Ain't Marching Anymore (including the iconic title track), and "Is There Anybody Here?" from Phil Ochs in Concert. Every song here is exemplary of his style at that time. However, even casual Ochs fans would likely look for "Changes" and a few other popular songs from his formidable career.
