[Edit]Somehow, the Italians seem to produce more quality jazz musicians per capita than any other country. Much of the music has been recorded on the Splasc(h) label, which records Italian jazz of all genres. Pierre Bassini plays mostly original pieces in a highly romantic vein, backed by bassist Luca Garaschelli and drummer Roberto Gatto. The music is sweet and fair, relaxed and comforting. As David Ielmini observes in the liners: "You feel as though you are listening to a recording made some time ago: a trio from the golden age of jazz." True enough, but although they are played well, the melodies are not recognizable (except for two standards), and there is not much to distinguish this recording from others of its genre. That being said, the trio is a tight, well-rehearsed unit, flawlessly laying down a lovely set.
